Jón Bjarnason fæddist í Skólahúsi Sveinsstaðahrepps, A-Hún. 18. nóvember 1925. Hann lést á Heilbrigðisstofnuninni á Blönduósi hinn 28. september síðastliðinn. Jón ólst upp hjá foreldrum sínum í Vatnsdalnum. Hann stundaði nám við Laugaskóla í Þingeyjarsýslu veturinn 1946-47. Árið 1954 hófu Jón og Kristín búskap á Bakka í Vatnsdal og var hann bóndi þar til æviloka.
Útför Jóns fer fram frá Blönduóskirkju í dag og hefst afhöfnin klukkan 11.

Jón kvæntist 24. maí 1952 eftirlifandi eiginkonu sinni Kristínu Ingibjörgu Lárusdóttur, f. 5. des. 1931. Foreldrar hennar voru Péturína Björg Jóhannsdóttir, f. 22. ágúst 1896, d. 23. júlí 1985, og Lárus Björnsson, f. 10. desember 1889, d. 27. maí 1987 húsbændur í Grímstungu í Vatnsdal.
