Hallgrímur Eðvarðsson fæddist á Helgavatni í Vatnsdal 14. mars 1913. Hann lést á sjúkrahúsi Blönduóss 18. nóvember síðastliðinn. Hallgrímur var bóndi á Helgavatni og bjó þar alla sína búskapartíð. Árið 1934 fór hann á Héraðsskólann á Laugarvatni og dvaldist þar við nám í tvo vetur. Frá árinu 1987 bjuggu þau hjónin á Hnitbjörgum á Blönduósi.
Útför Hallgríms fer fram frá Þingeyrakirkju í dag og hefst athöfnin klukkan 14.

Hinn 24. júní 1938 gekk Hallgrímur að eiga eftirlifandi eiginkonu sína Þorbjörgu Jónasdóttur Bergmann. Foreldrar hennar voru Jónas Bergmann, bóndi á Marðarnúpi í Vatnsdal, og kona hans Kristín Guðmundsdóttir. Þorbjörg og Hallgrímur eignuðust fjögur börn. Þau eru:
