Biographical history
Ljósmyndari. Skáld og rithöfundur, síðar rektor. Var á Arnarstapa, Laugarbrekkusókn, Snæf. 1845. Húsbóndi í Reykjavík 1910.
Steingrímur fæddist á Arnarstapa á Snæfellsnesi. Hann varð stúdent úr Lærða skólanum í Reykjavík 1851 og sigldi síðan til Kaupmannahafnar og settist í Hafnarháskóla. Þar hóf hann nám í lögum en hætti því og lagði stund á fornmálin (grísku og latínu), sögu og norræn fræði. Hann kom til Íslands 1872 og gerðist þá kennari við Lærða skólann í Reykjavík og varð að lokum rektor hans og því embætti hélt hann til dauðadags.
