Árið 1944 stofnuðu nokkrir menn á Blönduósi karlakór, tvöfaldur kvartett fyrst og hét þá Áttungar. Eftir tvö ár 1946 hafði fjölgað í hópnum og hlaut kórinn þá nafnið Karlakórinn Húnar. Stjórnandi kórsins í 11 ár var Guðmann Hjálmarsson.
