Nyrzta öxl Víðidalsfjalls heitir Ásmundarnúpur, 665 m hár. Vestan við Ásmundarnúp gengur dalur inn í fjallið og klýfur það í tvennt. Dalur þessi, sem er um 6 km á lengd, smáhækkar er inn í fjallið kemur og eyðist í urðardrögum inn á háfjallinu. Þessi umræddi dalur heitir Melrakkadalur. Fyrir mynni dals þessa stendur bærinn Melrakkadalur í Víðidal, er dregur efalaust nafn sitt af dalnum.
